Hooe Point Sailing Club played host to this year’s CSSC National Dinghy Championship on 24th & 25th September, with racing taking place in Plymouth Sound, the UK’s only National Marine Park; a fantastic and unique location for sailing and water sports.
Littleton Sailing Club was represented by three Junior teams, sailing double-handed in RS Fevas. Plus a parents’ team consisting of Tim Phillips (Laser), Joe Hillier-Davis & Luca Colombi (Laser Bahia), with Peta Evans kept off the water by a broken finger.
The event kicked off in style with Friday’s welcome drinks & buffet event held in the Ocean Room of the Mountbatten Centre. The Centre is now the new home of the Hooe Point Sailing Club.
The weather forecast predicted a great weekend ahead: sunny on Saturday & Sunday with winds reaching F4 / F5 on the first day and slowing down to F2 / F3 on the second.
In all, 26 boats competed in 7 races over the course of the weekend. 4 races on Saturday between 11:30am and 16:00pm and 3 races on Sunday. On Sunday boats were off the water by 3:30pm for the prize giving and photos.
Despite the brilliant effort from our juniors and their parents, Team Littleton didn’t manage to bring home any trophies. Although, Lottie and Caitlin won a prize for keeping the committee boat amused with their positive approach and singing skills.
The coveted Littleton Bell was handed over to Hooe Point SC with grace and a promise we will be back again next year with renewed determination and enthusiasm.
