The activities on this page are aimed at all those who feel they need some help and encouragement to build up their sailing skills. This could include those who have recently completed one of our beginner courses or those who have returned to sailing after a few years away.
Wednesday Evening Improver Sessions
Every Wednesday evening from the beginning of May to the end of August the club is open from 18:30 to 21:30, or dusk if thatís earlier. An instructor or other experienced sailor is on hand to provide safety cover and help and advice. The club Visions and Lasers are available for use without charge. There is no formal programme of instruction but the aim is that each session has a theme such as improved tacking, or sailing in stronger winds. Each session is stand-alone so there is no need to come every week. To take part you need to join the Improvers Group by emailing David Brassington or Malcolm Underwood at email@example.com.
This allows those completing our Level 1+2 beginner courses to share the use of one of the RS Vision training dinghies for the two months following the end of the course at £20 per person. This popular scheme encourages course members to continue sailing together and help each other. If you donít qualify for this scheme you could check out all the other club dinghies available for hire.
You can cruise whenever the club is open but there are also a series of specific Cruising Days scheduled on the club calendar. People are encouraged to come along and sail together on these dates, and weíll try to have some instructors or other experienced sailors around to give advice. There may be some club dinghies available to sail. If you are interested please contact Mark Harris to be added to the mailing list to receive further details.
Do you have a query about how to rig your boat or the best way to carry out a particular manoeuvre or anything else to do with sailing? If so send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The email will go to a group of experienced sailors who will respond. Just donít expect them all to agree! In some cases they may meet you at the club to help you out.
